Welcome to Roast Club. Each month Kettl will choose a select tea from one of Japan’s top producers—think unique cultivars and particularly fragrant selections—and slowly roast the tea on our in-house infrared roaster, transforming it into a one-of-a-kind houjicha. We pack the tea in house immediately after roasting to ensure a fresh and fragrant tea awaits you.
All new Roast Club installments ship on the 15th of each month.
Members who join between the 1st and the 15th will receive the upcoming selection as their first order, shipped on the 15th. Members who join between the 15th and the end of the month will receive the current selection as their first order immediately upon sign up. Ensuing orders will be processed on the 15th.
Miyazaki Kamairicha Houjicha
This houjicha, roasted in house using a base of bancha produced in the kamairicha style, is one of the most unique we have come across and featured at Kettl. While bancha is a traditional foundation for houjicha, it's incredibly rare to see it undergo pan firing before roasting—a preparation typically reserved for higher grade, first harvest leaves. The result is an incredibly sweet brew with deep, dried fruit notes and a lingering finish with just a hint of fresh tobacco.
